I have started to work with the next set (S12).

Nothing special, just more of the same sort 'as usual'. I will post update on the work here and it will take some weeks to get it finished......

I'm experimenting with some 3D details, but the poly count will decide if I'll use it or not. It will be 3D trunks with BB attached (If used).....

Enough talking, I'll post pics when I have some ready....

I'm trying to create 3D trees, but due to hi-poly issues, I have left to see if theese trees will be adopted into TRS 09. I have solved some mapping issues so the trees look better now.

This is my test tree at the moment, a Scottish Pine:

If the 3D tree project fails, I will try to produce billboards out of the 3DS max trees or try to combine 3d trunk and leafs and branches as billboards.

This was today's update...

I made some 3D trees for TC. The trees do not look good, but I have got the mesh down to an acceptable poly count.

a test tree, uses the combination of 3D trunk and billboard like leaf. With this teqcnique, I can have up to 10 different 'leaf types'.

Next step is to get the trees look good and at the same time create progessive mesh to use at distance..

...to be continued next week.

i have improved the Pine the 'test tree' and will use the texture for further model. I have used several hours to get the mesh working :? ....

The first tree of the S12 set:

shot#3:

The trunk and the bough are 3D, the branches have been poly-reduced. The leafs are clusters of BB.

The next Pine trees will be high and thinner than the first one, more like the Scottish Pine witch grows everywhere here in Norway. The next pics will show more models with same texture..

4 Pine tree models in mix.

Image
They all use the same texture, have 3D trunk and bough.

I will use progressive mesh to 'flip over' to 2D BB at distance. When 7 Pine's are ready, they will be released as a set of Pine trees.

The 4 trees are now available for UKBL members and guests, but they may be modified before upload to DLS

For test purpose:

more updates later...
