Hello everyone. I am new and from the United States. However I love steam engines and steam locomotives with a passion. Most of my favorite locomotives come from the United Kingdom, but my favorite one is the Union Pacific Big Boy.

Anyways I recently read a report about an A1 class locomotive, the Tornado, being made and used for mainline service. Is this true? If so is there any chance of Steam Trains being revived?

Also how much does a steam locomotive cost?

Steam will never come back in the true sense, only for tourist purposes.

Tornado was recently used for a Top Gear race which aired on Sunday and is avaliable on iPlayer: http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00lff2s/Top_Gear_Series_13_Episode_1_(new_series)/ I'm not sure if people from other countries can use the iPlayer

Tornado cost £3 Million to build, but the second new build of a design is always cheaper because you only have to make the patterns and locate the designs once
